Sonninghill is the boarding hostel for students attending Hamilton Girls’ High School. It is located in Marama Street just a short walk from the school. The hostel is set in landscaped grounds which include a swimming pool, netball/basketball/tennis court, and a barbecue area. There are three well equipped supervised study areas for the girls to attend prep and study, new computer system and computers, computer suite, tech suite with Apple computers, a sewing room and a craft area for art activities. There are family rooms and quiet rooms when students need space, reading or silent time. There are piano rooms, a games room well equipped with gym equipment, a pool and table tennis table, a room much used for social events such as Ms Sonninghill or Stars in your eyes. There is also a TV room available for the girls with a home theatre in the main building. Junior students share two bed cubicles while the seniors occupy motel stzyle units. Seniors have their own laundry area and a luxurious lounge for entertainment/TV/DVD watching, socialising and snacking. Meals are eaten in the dining room. As well as participating in all school activities students are encouraged to take advantage of the cultural and recreational opportunities in the community.  A mini bus is available to access after school and weekend activities. All boarders may travel home each weekend. The hostel is close to public transport which simplifies travel arrangements. Boarders may attend a church or worship centre of their choice.
