Houses Leaders

We have been spending much time planning and preparing so that we can enjoy and support you to make the most of the opportunities we want to provide for you. 

There is much excitement about the development of our House structures into vertical tutor groups.  Our goal is to ensure each young woman feels very connected to our school and society as she develops skills and attributes which aim to assist her to be a fine citizen in the 21st century.

Origins of Houses at HGHS

Wilson House

Ebenezer Wilson was the first Headmaster of Hamilton High School. He was appointed in 1911 and died in 1937.

Head Of House: Ann Weir, Dean Sivia Huser, Assistant Principal: Alison Gray

Campbell House

Mollie Campbell became the first Lady Assistant teacher in 1948. She was the Senior Mistress  in 1949 but she taught at the school until 1954, a year before the establishment of the separate schools.

Head Of House: Yvonne Hall, Dean: Mere Meha-Uelese, Associate Principal: Kathy Paterson

MacDiarmid House

C. L. MacDiarmid was the first Board Member who represented the parents. He was also the Chairman of the Board  between 1921 and 1942 (21 years).

Head Of House: Jacqui Sutton, Dean: Jo Belgrave, Deputy Principal: Katrina Whaanga

Edgecumbe House

Mr G Edgecumbe was the first Chairman of the school board, from the time the school opened in 1911 until 1920. He was an appointment of the Auckland Education Board.

Head Of House: Lynn Hodgkinson, Dean: Helen (Nellie) Wallance-Ward, Deputy Principal: Kerry Jenner

Heads House

This may have been named after Miss J Head who was a Mistress at the school 1959-1960.

Head Of House: Amanda Wood, Dean: Jodi-Ann Tautari Principal: Jill Carter

Malins

 Block

Named after D E Malins who was Chairman of the Board 1957 - 1961.

Anderson Block

Named after Principal Miss Lesley Anderson.
