Entry Requirement:   14 NCEA Level One Science/ Biology/Chemistry credits. These credits must include:

  • Achievement Standard Science 1.4 (90189) Describe aspects of Chemistry
  • OR Achievement Standard Chemistry 1.5 (90172) Represent and describe atomic structure
  • OR Achievement Standard Chemistry 1.4 (90640) Describe properties and reactions of metals acids and bases

Course Outline:  Chemistry is a study of the chemical world.  Topics covered include atomic structure, organic chemistry, redox chemistry and physical chemistry.  A large component of the work is based on practical laboratory work.  This course is composed of a combination of internally and externally assessed standards.
