Entry Requirement:  Open entry, but a genuine passion for the industry is an important attribute.  This course is a prerequisite for 13HOS.

Course Outline:  This course provides an introduction to working in a commercial kitchen and hospitality environment.  Students complete a series of unit standards which include both theory and practical work.  The units cover areas such as hygiene, safety, food and beverage service, cookery methods and practical food preparation.

Costs:  $50.00.  Students are required to have flat, black, closed leather shoes, black dress trousers or skirt, and formal white shirt for all catering occasions.

Days out of school:  One

Where does it lead?  A prerequisite for Level 3 Hospitality and grounding in food preparation skills for Tertiary or Industry training in Hospitality.  When combined with Level 2 Science and Mathematics it can provide a background for Food technology, Health Sciences and Sports Nutrition
