Entry Requirement:  Minimum 10 credits in Level One Technology, or HOD approval

Course Outline:  This course involves the application of a technology process in the development of food products to meet the requirements of student developed briefs.  The course requires considerable independent research and interaction and communication with stakeholders.  Students will also develop skills and knowledge of food chemistry, product development and sensory evaluation techniques, food trends and influences, design and production.  The first term will focus on skills and knowledge development while students research and identify a need or opportunity to provide the focus for their major project which will be determined by them.  Students will present their research and development as a portfolio alongside the construction of their products.

Where does it lead?  Pre-requisite for Level 3 courses TEC.  This is a university approved course which supports student learning for any university degree as well as forming a vital component of being an informed citizen and consumer.  The specific skills and knowledge learnt will prepare students for any Food related career such as Dietetics, Food Engineering, Food Product Development, Catering, Food Technology, Teaching and many more.
