Subject:  Recreation - Careers Gateway

Course Outline:   This course focuses on career exploration.  Areas covered are - work trends in the 21st century; rights and responsibilities of young workers; importance of transferable skills; self-awareness and learning styles; career decision-making process; how to access resources; CV writing; interview techniques; work experience.

Year 12-13 students will also have the opportunity to participate in the Gateway programme through this Careers module. Gateway opens a new pathway from school to the world of work. It is a great opportunity to blend school study with workplace learning and experience. Units are assessed in the workplace, counting towards National qualifications.  Students are expected to complete a number of work experience hours and achieve up to 10 credits in work-related Unit Standards. However, you do not have to take this module to participate in Gateway.

Costs:   Transport costs to work experience. No payment is made for this work experience

Days out of school:  Dependent upon work placement

Where does it lead?   Gateway builds skills for employment, working in real workplaces on real tasks. It gives opportunities to try potential careers and build links to Industry Training Organisations, Apprenticeships and workplaces. It can help clarify subject choices at school and in further study.
