There are a large number of financial scholarships available each year for potential tertiary students. Each tertiary institution has a scholarship section of their website and this is the first place students should be searching.
HGHS also subscribes to breakout which is a scholarship database and will include those that are not institution specific. Students need to access this site at school, central library or tertiary institution.
Students are encouraged to begin their search beginning of Term 2 as most scholarships will have opened for application. Checking the closing date and application criteria is very important as they vary for each scholarship.
Documentation required is generally similar to:
- NCEA Record of Achievement
- Evidence of citizenship - Birth Certificate or Passport
- Essay/Statement how they met the criteria
- 1 or 2 references
- Other supporting evidence as required
Many scholarships go unclaimed as students do not apply, we encourage all students intending on full time tertiary study to explore these opportunities. The school Careers Department can provide support and advice on any application but all institution scholarship offices can also assist with their own scholarships and this is a valuable service.
