On Saturday the 28th of June- the HGHS Touch team held a Celebrity Dinner at the Te Rapa race course. We were very fortunate that two All Black greats Sir Colin Meads and Liam Messam were there to support our evening.
The evening started off with a karakia and mihi from Carmen and everyone was welcomed by Marie Gordon. The HGHS Touch team then sang a beautiful waiata to support this.
Sir Colin Meads then took the stage and shared some very funny stories and his experiences while in the All Blacks. One story that sticks to mind was his first time meeting a dietician and being told he wasn’t allowed to eat red meat 3 days prior to playing.
Dinner was served and Jaedyn Randell a Year 9 student at HGHS and the winner of our talent quest performed 2 songs and blew the audience away with her amazing voice.
After dinner Somisi Sole took the stage and sat with Liam Messam, he asked quick fire questions and also questions from the audience. This was very entertaining and everyone there had a great laugh.
Silent auctions were taking place throughout the night, there were kindly donated gifts from Sir Colin, Liam and Casey Kopua. The evenings wine was donated by Makaraka wines.
The celebrity dinner was a huge success and we would like to thank everyone that attended and supported our team and all those that dedicated their time to making it such a great evening.
