Rebecca MacPherson selected for Trans Tasman Endurance Challenge

Year 11 pupil, Rebecca MacPherson from HGHS has recently been selected by Equestrian Sports New Zealand and Endurance New Zealand to represent her country in an exciting Trans Tasman Endurance Challenge in Queensland in November. Rebecca has been involved in Endurance for many years, at a local and national level. She placed second this year at our National Championship in Taupo, over 100km.

She will travel to Australia with the Junior Squad early November and will be riding a borrowed horse over a 100 kilometre ride. Endurance riding is a very technical sport, requiring a sound knowledge of your horse, it's welfare, fitness and ability to complete the ride comfortably. The horses must pass strict fitness and a Veterinary examination in order to continue. She will be riding at night when it is cooler, therefore adding to the challenge.

Rebecca will travel over on the 5th of November, and return on the 8th of November. Rebecca is aware her NCEA exams are also around this time, and has assured us she will take revision with her! Other Juniors in the team are in the same position as her.
