North Island Secondary Schools Horse Trials

A great weekend for HGHS Equestrian Team who competed in the NISS Horse Trials in Matamata this weekend.
After overcoming a couple of hiccups - one horse going lame and another refusing to get in the float our Team of Shelby Davys-Olsen, Sian McDonald and Molly Nelson in Section A won their event,  placing  2nd overnight after the Dressage.

On Sunday after all of the team producing a Double Clear Show jumping and then the Cross Country They moved up into 1st place to become NISS National champions a first time ever for the School. Our 2nd team placed 5th. Molly Nelson was also chosen to represent Waikato in the  Eventing Team. An outstanding effort.

From the Team Manager, Helen Potter
I had the pleasure of managing the HGHS equestrian team at the NISS horse trials this weekend over at Matamata. We consisted of 2 teams - "A" jumping 95cm & "B" jumping 80cm and also 2 draft riders (Neve Innes & Bailey Gallagher) that combined with Waikato Dio. On Saturday the girls rode their dressage test and the "A" team -Sian MacDonald, Molly Nelson & Shelby Davys Olsen, came 2nd in that. On Sunday they rode the cross country and show jumping courses. Hamilton Girls has never represented at this event and I am pleased to let you know that the "A" team came 1st overall winning the trophy. Both teams were a rider short due to lameness. Our "B" team - Morgan Innes, Sian Potter and Mikayla Falconer, just missed out on 4th place and came 5th overall. The girls and horses were beautifully turned out and are a credit to your school. The equestrian numbers for HGHS have increased over the last 2 years and I think they will continue to do so with support from the school. Congratulations on a fantastic effort!

Cycling National Age Group Champs

An outstanding effort from Mya Anderson representing HGHS in the NZ National Age group Champs held recently in Track Invercargill and Road Alexandra.
Winning silver in the 500m time trial, silver in the Derby and bronze in the point’s race. Meddling in 3 out of the 4 races she was entered in.

WATER POLO NZSS 2nd Division Nationals

Another great achievement from a HGHS sporting team. Our Senior Water Polo team competed in the NZSS 2nd Division Nationals held during the 2nd week of the school holidays, winning all of their pool games and after playing a great semi-final against Westlake to take them through to the final losing to Saint Kentigern 7-8 in a shootout after been tied at fulltime.
Lena Mitchell and Katie Lush made the Tournament team with Katie also named MVP. Also a number of the girls were selected to trial for the Waikato U/16 Team.

Congratulations to Alyssa Hirawani who  made NZ U/18 3x3 Basketball Team travelling to Europe in June. Stirling Walker-Pitman and Zarya Poulava named as non-travelling reserves.
