20th October Prime Minister’s Announcement

  • Students in years 11, 12 and 13 will return to the classroom from Tues 26 October in alert level 3 areas, to complete NCEA exams and assessments.
  • Face mask wearing is compulsory during Alert Level 3.

Senior Practice Exams: 26th October – 3rd November
We will begin the Senior Practice examination Tuesday 26th October running through to Wednesday 3rd November, as per the examination schedule sent out yesterday.

If in Alert level 2 Tuesday 26th October all students will be at school, and the practice exams will run ‘as normal’ and junior classes as well.

If in Alert level 3 Tuesday 26th October, only NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3 students will be onsite to undertake exams. Junior students in NCEA Level 1, 2 or 3 courses will also be able to attend their relevant exam.

When on site our senior students will need to:

  • Wear a mask at all times – this is now mandatory
  • Wear a mask on all school/public transport – this is mandatory

Year 9 and 10 Students
After the PM’s announcement Friday 22nd October we will confirm the learning status for our Year 9 and 10 students. If we are still in Alert level 3 our school will open for students of essential workers. Below is the link for parents to confirm attendance of their Year 9 or 10 students at Alert Level 3.

Year 9 and 10 students:  Alert Level 3 Attendance

Returning to Sonninghill Hostel
The Public Health Order is now in place to allow students who are at home for the holidays in an Alert Level 3 region and board in hostels on the other side of the boundary to travel to their hostel in an Alert Level 2 region.  We still have to await the decision on Friday, October 21st to see if the Waikato will move back into Alert Level 2.  Currently, we are awaiting any further information re hostel students returning to Sonninghill under Alert Level 3.

Students over 12 years are required to have a negative COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours before the journey begins. They will also need to carry evidence of the negative COVID-19 test and documentation (for example, a letter from the boarding hostel/school to show they are returning for the stated purpose). Students can be accompanied by one family member or caregiver who are subject to the same testing requirements.

Boarders would then be required to stay at their hostel for the remainder of the term. Travel back and forth between family home and hostel will not be permitted until travel restrictions are withdrawn (for example, the Alert Level 3 region moves to Alert Level 2).

Student Vaccination Register
Please note that we are currently working through the logistics of collecting vaccination data, and will be in touch later this term regarding the process to follow.  It is important not to send your information through, until we request this.

Finally, it is important that everybody continues to play their part. Please follow all the Alert Level 3 requirements – stay at home if you are unwell, get tested if you have any symptoms, even mild ones, maintain your bubble, and keep track of where you have been.

Ngā mihi
