The latest to join this legacy is 2021 Sports Captain, Kelsey Teneti, who was signed earlier this year.
Kelsey joins a long line of HGHS alumni to be part of the Black Ferns 7s team. Those before her include Terina Te Tamaki, Jazmin Hotham, Shiray Kaka, Shakira Baker (former mathematics teacher), Tenika Willison and Manaia Nuku.
Kelsey, as an 18-year-old, was a strong performer in the FPC – winning Waikato team and previously captained the New Zealand Secondary Schools Condors team. This proved a solid foundation for impressing Black Ferns selectors with her unreal energy and eagerness to learn.
Kelsey inspires our athletes showing that resilience, courage, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence are the cornerstones of self-actualisation and the realisation of dreams.
