Zone Information

Please read the following information carefully in regards to our enrolment process.

Before you begin, please have the following documents ready to upload during the enrolment process:

 

IN ZONE
Students who live within the zone described below shall be entitled to enrol.

The geographical outer boundaries of the Hamilton Girls’ High School in-zone area are:
Boundary Road, Fifth Avenue to the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Tramway Road, a line from Tramway Road to Bisley Road and the Knighton Road, Ruakura Road intersection, then down Knighton Road and Clyde Street to Grey Street, along Grey Street to Cobham Drive, along Cobham Drive to the Waikato River, along the Waikato River to Selwyn Street, along Selwyn Street and Lake Crescent, through Innes Common to Killarney Road as far as Queen’s Avenue, along Queen’s Avenue and Lake Road to the Commerce Street corner, then Mill Street to Boundary Road.

Document Requirements for Enrolment In Zone:

  • Proof of residence within the home zone will be required. This evidence should take the form of a statement signed by a Justice of the Peace.
    – If you are living in your own home – two recent documents showing residence in zone – rates notice and one of the following utilities accounts: power/gas, telephone, insurance (NOT a bank statement or correspondence from a bank).
    – If you are living in a rented home – three recent documents showing residence in zone – tenancy agreement and two of the following utilities accounts: power/gas, telephone, insurance (NOT a bank statement or correspondence from a bank).
  • Copy of birth certificate OR passport.
    – Copy of birth certificate OR passport if your daughter is a NZ citizen.
    – Copy of passport if your daughter was born overseas and date of entry into New Zealand.
  • Copy of New Zealand residence (if applicable).
  • Copy of approved refugee status (if applicable).
  • Immunisation certificate/record.
  • Student Enrolment Consent and Declaration Form.
  • Copy of most recent school report.

OUT OF ZONE
Applications for enrolment from out of zone enrolments will be prioritised in the following order:

PRIORITY 1:
Students who have been accepted for enrolment in special programmes run by the school and approved by the Secretary of Education. (No such programmes at HGHS).

PRIORITY 2*:
Sisters of current students.

PRIORITY 3*:
Sisters of former students.

PRIORITY 4**:
Daughters of former students of the school.

PRIORITY 5:
Daughters of employees of the Hamilton Girls’ High School Board of Trustees or daughter of a member of the board of the school.

PRIORITY 6:
All other applicants.

*Priority 2 & 3:
Name of Sister(s): Please only provide details of the sister relationship (ie. not cousins, mothers etc). Only the sister relationship gives applicants priority in the current enrolment scheme. Please don’t forget to detail sister’s current year level or which years she previously attended the school.

**Priority 4:
Please provide the name of the mother who is a former student, proof of her attendance at Hamilton Girls’ High School, and any other relevant details. Note the years attended and name at time of attending HGHS, if different to current name. The school may require a birth certificate and evidence of the formal change of name.

NB:
Proof could be a copy of a report, leaving certificate.

Ballot:
If there are more applicants in the first, second, third, and fourth priority groups than there are places available, selection will be by ballot within the priority group. This will be conducted in accordance with the instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in the Waikato Times.

    – Copy of birth certificate OR passport if your daughter is a NZ citizen.
    – Copy of passport if your daughter was born overseas with Residence visa/stamp.
  • Immunisation certificate/record.
  • Student Enrolment Consent and Declaration Form.
  • Copy of most recent school report.
