Sonninghill is the boarding hostel for students attending Hamilton Girls’ High School. It is located in Marama Street just a short walk from the school.
The hostel is set in landscaped grounds which include a swimming pool, netball/basketball/tennis court, and a barbecue area. There are three supervised study areas for the girls to attend prep and study. There are piano rooms, a games room well equipped with gym equipment, a pool and table tennis table. There is also a TV room available for the girls with a home theatre in the main building.
Junior students share two bed cubicles while the seniors occupy motel style units. Seniors have their own laundry area and a modern lounge and kitchen for entertainment/TV/DVD watching, socialising and snacking. All meals are eaten in the dining room.
As well as participating in all school activities students are encouraged to take advantage of the cultural and recreational opportunities in the community. A mini bus is available to access after school sports and activities. All boarders may travel home each weekend. The hostel is close to public transport which simplifies travel arrangements. Boarders may attend a church or worship centre of their choice.
