DANCE
Our dance crews all have the opportunity to participate in events such as Dance NZ Made, HGHS Talent Show, HGHS Te Puawaitanga Arts and Cultural celebration, and various school performances as groups or individuals.

HIP HOP AUDITION CREW
This is our premier dance group who participate in Dance NZ Made Regional competitions to qualify for the Nationals. Students audition and are required to demonstrate high levels of commitment.

Students who belong to this group may also enter the competitions as solo artists.

HIP HOP DEVELOPMENT
The purpose of the development Hip Hop club is to allow students of all abilities to express themselves through a passion for hip hop dance.

JUNIOR and SENIOR DANCE CLUBS
These girls demonstrate a passion for dance, willingness to try new things and work well with others to express themselves through dance.

DEBATING
Debating is an opportunity to discuss different issues and refine your speaking skills. Teams of 3 compete against other schools in the NZ Schools Debating Competitions. There are junior and senior squads.

SHEILAH WINN
The Sheilah Winn Competition is an annual inter-school Drama Competition which takes place at the end of Term 1.  Students perform 5 and 15 minute scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, set in any time period, any place and with any genre of costume. 

HGHS/HBHS PRODUCTION
This annual production is undertaken in collaboration with HBHS. It is a large-scale, prestigious production showcasing the best talent of the two schools. Students can be involved in both onstage and back-stage roles

 
THEATRESPORTS
Theatresports club is open to all comers. Students learn Theatre sports games and compete in teams in the Waikato inter-schools theatre sports competition.

DRAMA CLUB
Drama Club is open to all and meets every week for games and devised activities. It is convened by the Drama Prefect and Drama Committee.

WARDROBE CREW
for every person who appears on stage there are two behind the scenes who make a performance possible. Costume design and dressing, set painting and props making, sound and lighting,stage management and so much more. Come and be part of the creative process and learn new skills

TE MAUREA WHIRITOI
Te Maurea Whiritoi is our premier kapa haka performance group and is comprised of students from both HBHS and HGHS. The name represents the male and female elements of the group intertwining and weaving together as one through the medium of kapa haka (traditional Māori Performing Arts). It makes reference to the important work of all our youth who participate in the art form to hold fast to the traditions, values and teachings of our ancestors. 

The group performs at corporate and community events such as the Turangawaewae Regatta and Koroneihana, as well as training to compete at regional and national competitions.

GIRLS’ HIGH EYE
Girls’ High Eye is a group of students with experience in Media production (but not limited to Media students). The group produces videos that showcase various school activities. These are then shown at Principal’s assembly.The purpose of the group is to document & advertise the events at HGHS and to develop skills in filming, photographing and editing

FILM CLUB - COMPETITIVE
The Competitive Film Club is for students who would like to create films to enter in competitions around New Zealand such as the Fair Go Video Competition, Outlook for Someday Competition and 48 Hour Film Competition 

 
FILM CLUB - INTERNATIONAL
The International Film Club is a once-a-month club for students who love to watch films. The club is held after school in H11. The films in this club are diverse and from different countries - so members should expect to have their ideas and perspectives challenged. Discussions will be held the following day at either interval/lunchtime to discuss the film from the night before.

FILM CLUB
A film will be assigned to watch every two weeks - members watch the film in their own time and then get together to look for deeper meanings, critique or just talk about the movie.

MULTICULTURAL COMMITTEE
This club is for anyone who has an interest in other cultures and in raising multicultural awareness within HGHS. We organise activities and events to celebrate things such as Chinese New Year, St Patrick’s Day and other National holidays.

CHOIR - MANA WAHINE
This choir is open to all HGHS students to audition for. They participate in various activities throughout the year and attend ‘The Big Sing’ choral festival.

BARBERSHOP - CHORUS and QUARTETS
The Chorus is a large group of singers and is open to all students to audition. They participate in the Regional Barbershop competition to qualify for Nationals. This is a highly competitive group and requires committed, enthusiastic voices. Chorus members can audition for places in one of two quartets that compete at the same competition.

ORCHESTRA
Anyone who has been learning an instrument may audition for the orchestra. The members work together in an orchestra and perform at events throughout the year including the University of Waikato Band and Orchestra festival

SAMBA BAND
This is a specialised drumming group with expert tutoring. The band rehearses for percussion competitions such as the University Waikato Band and Orchestra Festival. This group is open to all students who can demonstrate commitment and rhythm.

GUITAR GROUP - TROUBLE CLEFS
Students should have their own guitar and enter with some skills. This group performs at various functions throughout the year including the Band and Orchestra Festival and the University of Waikato

JAZZ BAND - POST MODERN GIRLS
Students should have some experience with at least one musical instrument of their choice. Students need to provide their own instrument.  This group performs at various functions throughout the year including the Band and Orchestra Festival and the University of Waikato

ROCK QUEST BAND
Students form their own band and aim to enter a competitive band in the National Rock Quest Competition. There is an extremely skilled tutor who will mentor the participants.It is preferred that band members have their own instruments.

TECH COMMITTEE
This group supports many of the events at HGHS by setting up and running the sound and lighting equipment needed.

PASIFIKA PERFORMANCE GROUP
Each year the group work towards a significant performance or tour of performances where they showcase the talents of Pasifika. As places are limited, auditions will be held

PASIFIKA CHOIR
This group comes together to perform at a variety of events when requested.  It is led by one of the senior Pasifika Music students. There is no requirement to be Pasifika in order to sing with the choir

KILIKITI TEAM
In Kilikiti, a team of 15-20 players take the field to dismiss the opposition in a game that vaguely resembles traditional cricket. Like cricket teams try to accumulate runs while also trying their best to defend their wicket with a long softball bat like club. Unlike the traditional cricket game, Kilikiti games in the annual tournament lasts no longer than 40-60 minutes. Furthermore, unlike the traditional cricket game played in white pressed uniforms with pads, gloves and helmets, Kilikiti players take the field in colourful lavalava, tee shirts with the option to wear sneakers (or not!). Boundaries and runs between the wickets are greeted with cheers and song. But beware! A dismissal at the wicket is celebrated with dancing, cheers and 'gentle ridicule' by the fielding team. Overall, Kilikiti is about teamwork, team spirit and fun.

An annual tournament is usually held on the Waikato University field and is open to all schools in the Waikato area.

ARTS CLUB
Are you interested in Art? But were unable to take it as an option this year? Or do you like being creative but didn't want to take it as a subject? Well, the Arts Club may be for you. It's a place to come and be creative and meet other like-minded people. You will have a chance to experiment and try new things, or just do what you like to do, all within a friendly, creative environment.

YOUNG CURATORS CLUB
Are you interested in showcasing Visual Arts within the HGHS community? You do not need to be an artist to contribute to this club but you do need to be passionate and enthusiastic about Visual Art. Arts curators are people that bring art to the public, made possible by considered event planning and the careful management of spaces for exhibiting online and in School. You will need to work in a team to develop quality art experiences for our community and create positive exhibiting experiences for our HGHS artists. If this sounds like an amazing opportunity, it is!
