Each year we rely on Sports Organisations, parents and students to help ensure we keep up to date with the achievements of each student within the school.

Summer Codes

Adventure Racing

Adventure Racing is a sport that involves a lot of endurance of athletes. Teams are set with many physical and mental challenges in conditions that will test all aspects of their wellbeing.

Our girls partner up with Hamilton Boys High School and train and compete within Get2Go Challenges within the region.

Competition Fees:
These are dependent on the enrolment into the events and will be communicated to families well in advance to ensure there is enough time to make payments.

Events are throughout the year, such has Hillary Challenge and Get2Go.

Equestrian

HGHS Equestrian team compete in Show Jumping, Show Hunter and Dressage events every term. It is a requirement that you have your own horse of access to a horse to compete within this team.

Rugby 7's

Rugby 7s have had a good history within our Sports at Hamilton Girls High School. With a sport that is developing rapidly for females we have had a great run of past Old Girls’ being signed with Black Ferns 7s Contracts.

To date we have had 8 Old girls signed up as Black Ferns 7s players, a common dream for up and coming athletes.Condors National tournament is what we competitively attend each year and have been crowned the National Champions in 2017.

Athletics

Athletics at Hamilton Girls’ High School brings students who train with and compete for a variety of coaches and clubs to compete together locally, regionally and nationally for Hamilton Girls’ High School in Regional and National Secondary School competitions.

Basketball 3x3

Basketball has a rich history at our school with our Senior Premier team qualifying for New Zealand Secondary Schools each year in Palmerston North during the Term 3 Holidays, with a competitive and successful track record,

Our teams participate in the local Waikato Secondary Schools Competition and play at school and community gymnasiums within Hamilton, Cambridge and Te Aroha during the weekdays.

Season: Term 2 & 3

Game day: Tuesday Juniors & Friday Seniors

Venue: Various Gyms in Hamilton, Cambridge & Te Aroha

Uniform: Playing Uniform is supplied for our Basketball teams, and appropriate footwear is required while playing.

Trial Dates: TBC – Check Student Notices

Season Fees:

All tournaments and exchange games are additional to the seasons fees stated above. Our Senior and Junior Premier team attend a regional qualifying tournament 

It is expected that a deposit of $40 is to be paid prior to attending trials. This contributes towards the season’s fees, and is non refundable due to a change of mind post trialling. It is our hope that every student registered will make a team, and in cases of limited numbers this would be refunded in this instance only. All fees need to be paid in full prior to the commencement of the competition.

Tennis

Tennis is available at HGHS from the opportunity to ‘give it a go’ with lunchtime sessions with Mr Farrell or for more organised structure of the local weekly competition and attending the Waikato Secondary School Championships.

Ki-O-Rahi

Ki O Rahi is a traditional Maori game that is full of speed, agility and intensity. For this sport we combine with Hamilton Boys High School and have a combined team that has competed in the Waikato Secondary School Competitions and have in past years attended the National Secondary School championships by winning the qualifying tournaments.

Futsal

Futsal is a popular sport that has grown with our Football community at HGHS. Our Premier Senior team attend the NZSS Futsal Nationals in Wellington in Term 1 each year.

Rowing

HGHS has a growing Rowing program with our excellent coaching team aspiring to become a competitive national crew. Each year we attend various regattas including Maadi Cup. The Rowing Season is from Term 4 and Term 1 of the following year.

Cricket

Cricket has had increasing interest over the years and we would like to see our girls qualify for the Gillette Cup one year..could 2021 be the year?!

Triathlon

We have an enthusiastic student who is looking to participate in her events with other girls within the school. So if your interested please contact the sports office for more information and I am sure she would love the company to train and compete with under HGHS.

Touch

Touch has a proud history at Hamilton Girls’ High School. We enter the local competition and attend the qualifying tournament and National Secondary School Championships each year.

Alternate years we have also attended tournaments in Australia, pre COVID. Whaea Hollie is our Coach of our Premier side and coordinator for our school touch programme, and she has an exceptional rapport with our girls. We have had several girls partaking in Waikato and National age group teams and represented internationally.

Swimming

Swimming exists of girls training within clubs and swim squads and competing at school competitions under Hamilton Girls’ High School.

Each of the school events, Waikato Secondary Schools, North Island Championships and National Secondary Schools Camps has been up to each of the swimmers eligibility if they are available to attend.

Also should their be a need, for a Learn to Swim programme this could be an option of availability in Term 1 in our School pool, but will be dependant on numbers and teacher availability.

Waterpolo

Water polo is a fantastic team sport and we have a fabulous squad of girls playing who would love you to join the team.  Even if you haven’t played we have experienced coaches who can show you the ropes and in no time you too will be enjoying this fast growing sport.

This year we have a full itinerary with the Senior Waikato Competition, North Island tournament in Wellington, Nationals in Auckland – and that’s only term 1!   The beginning of the year is a great time to join , we have use of the school pool for swim training and also train Mondays and Tuesdays at Waterworld.   Games are Monday and Wednesday nights and Seniors and Juniors play this term.   

So if you’ve played water polo before, or would like to give it a go or would like to find out more information, register online.  Water polo starts 9th February at Water world.

Waka Ama

Waka Ama is a strong programme at HGHS. We affiliate to the club situated over the hill in the Hamilton lake. Each year we attend the National Secondary School Nationals at Rotorua Blue Lake.

Canoe Polo

We are excited to have the opportunity to host the Waikato interschools Canoe Polo competition at HGHS School Pool. This sport kickstarted off in 2020 and we are happy to have it continue and hope it grows stronger.
