HGHS Touch reign supreme as NZSS Champions again!

Achieving the 3PEAT! Back to back NZ titles 2019, 2020 and 2022! And a total of 5 National titles in the 14 year coaching career of Hollie Graham!

Coming through pool play and cross overs undefeated set up the perfect finale against Manukura, who we had previously beaten in pool play.

Going into the final as favorites may have put some pressure on our girls. Manukura managed to score first, with HGHS levelling just before halftime.

There was a massive defensive effort in the second half from HGHS who managed to hold out some crafty and quick Manukura attempts at the line.

HGHS went on to score another three tries to Manukura’s one in the second half and sealed the game 4-2, winning another championship! (Tries scored by Bailey Paenga (2) and Amarnee Shepherd (2)).

Amarnee Shepherd also added tournament MVP to her already impressive athlete CV, having recently been named in the NZ Open Women’s Touch team and also named in the Upper North Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament Team

We have quite a few Year 13s in this team who will depart and we wish them all the very best and thank them for their effort and commitment over the years.

We are extremely excited about the young talent that we have in our ranks! HGHS Touch is in good hands to continue the legacy!

Thank you also to Karl Shepherd and Rachel Stratford for your contribution to the success of our Touch program and 2022 campaign.
